Color

Color picker, eyedropper, foreground/background colors, and the Color panel.

Color Picker Dialog

Click the foreground or background color swatch (in the toolbox or Color panel) to open the full-featured color picker dialog.

  1. Click a color swatch to open the Color Picker.
  2. Use the large 2D field to select saturation (horizontal) and brightness (vertical).
  3. Use the vertical hue strip to change the base hue.
  4. Enter exact values in the HSB, RGB, or Hex fields.
  5. The preview shows the current vs. new color.
  6. Click OK to confirm, or Cancel to discard the change.

Foreground and Background Colors

The toolbox shows two overlapping color swatches: foreground (top-left) and background (bottom-right). The foreground color is used for painting, text, and fills. The background color is used by the Eraser on Background layers and for certain fill operations.

  • Click the foreground swatch to change the foreground color.
  • Click the background swatch to change the background color.
  • Press X to swap foreground and background colors.
  • Press D to reset to default black foreground / white background.

Eyedropper Tool (I)

Sample a color from the canvas and set it as the foreground color.

  1. Press I to select the Eyedropper tool.
  2. Click anywhere on the canvas to sample the color at that pixel.
  3. The foreground color updates to the sampled color.
Tip:While using any painting tool, hold Alt temporarily to switch to the Eyedropper and sample a color, then release Alt to continue painting.

Color Panel

The Color panel in the right sidebar provides a compact color selection interface with sliders for HSB or RGB values, plus foreground/background swatches.
