Shapes
Rectangle and ellipse shape tools for creating vector shape layers.
Rectangle Tool (U)
Draw rectangle shapes on the canvas. Shapes are created as vector shape layers with fill and stroke properties.
- Press U to select the Rectangle tool.
- Set the fill color and stroke in the options bar.
- Click and drag on the canvas to draw the rectangle.
- Hold Shift to constrain to a perfect square.
- Hold Alt to draw from the center.
- Release to create the shape layer.
Rectangle Options

| Fill | Solid color, gradient, pattern, or none |
| Stroke | Outline color and width |
| Corner Radius | Rounded corners (0 for sharp) |
| Mode | Shape layer, Path, or Pixels |
Ellipse Tool
Draw ellipse (oval/circle) shapes on the canvas. Shares the same options as the Rectangle tool.
- Press U and cycle to Ellipse (Shift+U or options bar).
- Click and drag to draw the ellipse.
- Hold Shift for a perfect circle.
- Hold Alt to draw from center.
Shape Layer Properties
Shape layers appear in the Layers panel with a shape icon. Their properties can be edited in the Properties panel:
- Change fill color by clicking the fill swatch.
- Change stroke color and width.
- Adjust corner radius (rectangles only).
- Transform the shape with Free Transform (Ctrl+T).
Tip:Shape layers are resolution-independent vectors. They remain crisp at any zoom level and can be scaled without quality loss.
